2 God is Infinite

31

We are going to begin our study of God's infinite being with Jeremiah 23:23-24. Last week, I began by having us recite together the Westminster Shorter Catechism definition of God. What is God? God is a spirit, infinite, eternal unchangeable, in his being, wisdom, power holiness, justice, goodness and truth. What makes God God? What distinguishes God from everything else, the answer is not simply the first attribute. That God is Spirit distinguishes God from man and the rest of Creation, with the exception of angels and demons. When the Bible speaks of God being a Spirit, it means that God is tri-personal, nonphysical being. What makes God unique? Sometimes, theologians will use the term, non-communicable to summarize these attributes. Am attribute of God that cannot be communicated, or transferred, is non-communicable. The other 7 terms are considered communicable or transferable. We have being. We have wisdom. We have power. We have holiness. We have justice. We have goodness. We have truth. These attributes have their source in God, but He transferred them or communicated them to humanity.
