When I first started planning this Psalm series, I looked at Advent and wondered how to make this work. The Psalms in the late 30s are so dark! But that’s when I realized that Advent is a dark season. Our commercial culture tries to make it a happy season, but if we take seriously the joy of Christmas, then Advent is a reminder of a world without Jesus.
Think about that for a moment. A world without Jesus? That’s what these Psalms are talking about. What is the purpose of a life without Jesus? If the Word does not become flesh and dwell among us then what future do we have?
