Momentous Decisions

Amongst other lessons we may learn in this address, we are reminded that God can raise up, but he can also bring down. Do not therefore envy the wealthy or famous for the possessions they may have, their houses, lands, or indeed their riches. Some people may deal benevolently with these things, but such things can be easily lost.

An interesting observation to make, is that people can make bad decisions when under the influence of alcohol. It has the ability to rob them of their reason, and capacity to make sound judgements. Such may well have been the case with Ahasuerus, when he attempted to parade his beautiful wife, Vashti, before his invited guests at one of his great feasts. It offended her dignity, and she refused, the result of which was that she lost the crown.

Vashti may have been badly treated, and so are many Christians. But do not despair, God is at work. Even errors of judgement can serve the purposes of God, as we will discover as this series proceeds.
