Rocks of Ages

Aim: To understand that we need to commemorate and celebrate the Lord's salvation of us.

Exegesis: Rocks of ages remind us of the Lord's salvation of us: it is comprehensive (v. 1a), commemorative (vv. 1b-3a), and compassionate (v. 3b). Rocks of ages remind us of the Lord's covenant with us. The sign points us to our church (vv. 4-6a), children (vv. 6b-7b), and Christ (v. 7c). Rocks of ages remind us of the Lord's grace to us. Our God will not forsake us (v. 8) nor forget us (v. 9).

Key verse: v. 3b-d ''...Take for yourselves twelve stones from here, out of the midst of the Jordan, from the place where the priests' feet stood form. You shall carry them over with you and leave them in the lodging place where you lodge tonight.''
