Hebrews 7:11-19

The priesthood of Jesus was extremely important to the author of Hebrews, at the time of writing there was an earthly temple in Jerusalem where sacrifices were being taken, and priest were still claiming to represent people to God. The vast majority of Jews had rejected Jesus and had returned to the earthly priest. By doing so, every time they went to the earthly priest, they were rejecting the Heavenly Priest. In essence they were saying that Jesus was a guilty sinner who deserved to die, and His life and work were worthless and meaningless. As the final High Priest Jesus has perfected and completed all that was in the Old Covenant, including the Law and the role of the Priests. What should our response be? We should rest and trust that our High Priest has perfectly accomplished the priestly role on our behalf.
