James 2.14-26 Visible Faith

One of the great accomplishments of the Reformation was the recovery of the doctrine of justification by faith alone. Faith is the means or vehicle of our justification and our justification is based on what Christ has done on our behalf. But what does James mean when he says that we are also justified by works? Does he mean that we are saved by what we do? Or is he speaking of our temporal experience as our faith becomes visible?
