3 Reforming Our Worship

44
  1. There are some incredible benefits of TRUE worship. Here are three.
    a. The first benefit of worship is that TRUE worship exposes our heart. Whether good or bad, our heart is revealed as we attend TRUE worship.
    b. The second benefit is that TRUE worship sanctifies us. Worship is formative. Who we worship and how we worship trains the affections of our heart.
    c. The third benefit is that TRUE worship is actually an outflow of the second point. If worship sanctifies, it also prepares us for what God has in store for us. It prepares us for service in this life.
  2. How can we determine if what we are participating in is TRUE worship or some distortion of it? The central principle of worship is God. TRUE worship is about the TRUE God.
  3. Hebrews 12:28-29 directly excludes three assumptions that are prevalent in the church today.
    a. The first wrong assumption is that sincerity is enough.
    b. The second assumption is that what satisfies me, satisfies God.
    c. The third assumption in worship is that we are free to express ourselves in worship.
Conclusion: We are not free to worship God as we want. God knows what we offer Him and we cannot fool Him. Let us by grace offer to Him acceptable worship, the worship that He commands. Let us find our pleasure in worship in God being pleased with what we bring Him.
