Stonewall Jackson urged Doctor Broadus, saying to Doctor Jones: "Write to him by all means and beg him to come. Tell him that he never had a better opportunity of preaching the gospel than he would have right now in these camps." He promptly replied that he would be glad to come; that he had been seriously and prayerfully considering the question; and that he had only been prevented from entering the army before by a doubt as to whether his feeble health could stand the exposure of camp life; but that he would at least try it as soon as he could make his arrangements. When I met General Jackson a few days after the reception of Doctor Broadus's letter, and told him that he would come, the great soldier said in his characteristic phrase: "That is good; very good.
