The Contemplation of Christ
Series 1 Peter
The Contemplation of Christ our Redeemer
1 Peter 1:18 says, "Forasmuch as ye KNOW...". This phrase is four words in English but only one word in the original. It is the Greek Word "eido" which means, “to perceive, notice, discern, discover” - "to turn the eyes, the mind, the attention upon”
It is the same word used in Matt 2:1-2 “Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem. Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we HAVE SEEN his star in the east, and are come to worship him.”
The seeing of the Star by the Wise Men was not just a passing glance. They diligently studied the star and the meaning of its appearance before commencing their journey to see the new born King.
This is the same word the Peter chose to call Christians to carefully consider the Greatness of our Redemption and the Gloriousness of our Redeemer.
