John - Jesus Burial

This was Jesus final humiliation. Before this he had been in control; now he needed his people to care for him. In God's Providence they did so, a reminder of how important the human body is to God (we must not be super-spiritual). Jesus' body was being protected and preserved for the resurrection. For the eleven it was a moment of terror. The women at least used the time to prepare - a lesson to us that there may be times when we cannot active but ought to prepare for the future. For Joseph and Nicodemus it was a time of crisis - a time to keep safe, or a time to care for the Lord Jesus. We may face such moments. There are many hidden disciples, like Nicodemus. And there are many people we might dismiss but who will develop as Nicodemus did. Jesus burial is a reminder to us that our future is transformed by his death and resurrection, He has 'warmed the grave' for his people. It is also a reminder of his love, a reminder that should prompt us to follow his example and that of Joseph and Nicodemus.
