Countering the Onslaught

Thesis: Biblical tactics to defend ourselves against the
onslaught of the false teachers and false gospel

1. Remember v17-19
   A. There will opposition and false teachers
   i. Matthew 7:15/2 Peter 1:12-13
   B. The Word - the sword of the spirit which is the Word of God
   i. Gripping the sword, the word of God
   a. Hear, Read, study, memorize and mediate
   C. The Coming Apostasy
   i. Prepare for what they say
   ii. Remember why they say it - their desire to deceive and draw away - Acts 20:29-32
   iii.Discern between was truly spiritual and that which is worldly minded - Hebrews 4:10-13

2. Remain v20-21
   A. Build each other - 1 Thes 5:11/Heb 3:12-13
   i. Encourage and Admonish one another
   B. In Prayer
   i. Pray in the Holy Spirit - searching out God's will through His word and through prayer - 1 Cor 2

3. Rest v21
   A. Cling to Jesus/Wait for our redeemer, Resting in His work and grace alone. Titus 2:11-14/ Heb 9:27-28
   B. This place is not my home - 2 Peter 3:10-12
   C. Anticipate His coming

CONCLUSION: Cling to Jesus, Remember His word. Remain in the Gospel and Rest in Jesus looking to His coming.
