We see the person of Christ in verse 8 as He speaks of the pain that the congregation at Smyrna is enduring. He recognizes their present suffering through persecution, poverty and persistence. Next He addresses the reality and reason for their suffering. Verse 10 and 11 bring the promise of the crown and the perils of the counterfeit.
