Precious Promises
Series The Gospel of John
As the disciples of Christ face His impending crucifixion and His departure to heaven, our Lord encourages, strengthens and emboldens His disciples in the following five ways:
The Prediction of a Greater Impact
Surely no disciple could do anything equal to or greater, in glory and majesty, than our Lord. The disciples would would do works amongst more people, spreading the Gospel to the whole world.
The Privilege of Answered Prayer
God will answer the prayers that are according to His will. Our requests must be bathed and sanctified by God's prerogatives and for His glory alone.
The Practice of Authentic Love
We show the truth of our profession of faith by truly loving one another and even loving the lost. This is an assurance to all disciples that He is with us and we are with Him.
The Promise of a Coming Comforter
Christ tells His disciples that He would send the Holy Spirit to comfort them, assist them and to abide with them, indwelling in them. This promise is to all who truly belive in Christ and are born again (born from above). The Holy Spirit is our Teacher as we study the Word of God, not with new revelations, but with the sure word of God.
The Promise of Prevailing Peace
The world gives a pretend peace that does not satisfy. The peace from Christ is a real, abiding peace that sustains all true disciples of Christ. Only in Christ can we find the peace with God and from God.
