Three Tenses of the Lord's Supper
356
The Lord's Supper involves three tenses: the past, the present and the future. Whenever we celebrate the Supper, we look back to the finished work of Christ and proclaim his death. In the present, we enjoy real Communion with the Lord Jesus himself through the Holy Spirit who brings us to the right hand of the Father. Whenever we observe the Lord's Supper, we are reminded of the Blessed Hope, because we will eat this meal until the Lord Jesus returns.
