Galatians: Answer, Argument & Affirmation
97
We are justified by faith alone apart from works.
Asking of a Question (V17):
- Are we saved by faith or are we saved by works?
- If salvation by works is right, then Jesus is wrong. God forbid!
Answer (18):
- Christ alone paid the price of our sins.
- There is no system of law or works that can save.
- Paul says he would make himself a transgressor to add anything to salvation.
- Anyone who adds anything to faith is a minister of sin!
Argument (V19):
- The law was a schoolmaster to bring us to Chirst. The Law does not save.
- Two problems with the Law
1: No one could measure up
2: Even if you could, it still has no power to change lives
Amplification (V20):
- I am crucified with Christ who liveth in me!
- The only place to put your faith is in the Son of God.
Affirmation (V21):
- I am in no way going to nullify the grace of God.
- If you add anything to grace, it ceases to be grace.
- If you add anthing to faith, it ceases to be faith.
