Psalm 2: Christ is King

Psalm 2
Psalm 1 begins, 'Blessed is the man...' and Psalm 2 ends 'Blessed are all they that put their trust in him' (2.12c).
I. The Rejection of Christ (verses 1-3)
A. Rage. The Psalm begins with rage (2.1).
B. Rejection. The leaders in this are the leaders of nations! (2.2).
C. Rebellion. This is revolt against God and his standards (2.3).
II. The Rule of Christ (4-9)
A. God laughs. (2.4). God does not feel threatened. (See Revelation 19.19-21). Christ is king.
B. God speaks. When God speaks it is best to listen to what he has to say. (See Ecclesiastes 5.1-2).
(i) Christ is Supreme. (2.5-6) (Philippians 2.9-11; Exodus 15.1-3).
(ii) Christ is sufficient. (2.7). (a) Sonship (John 1.1). (b) God incarnate (John 1.14). (c) Knows God's will (John 1.18).
III. Receiving Christ (10-12)
A. The kiss of acknowledgement. (Luke 7.37-38).
B. The kiss of sincerity. (Luke 7.44-47).
Conclusion
‘Be wise now therefore' (2.10).
