Our Kind and Affectionate God

Thoughts are like horses running wild. If you are riding one, it can take you to dangerous places. We therefore need strong fences to contain them. Consider whether you would cultivate unloving thoughts toward a person who gave you the whole world? Or would you rather stop at the fence; reminding yourself of how kind that person has been to you. What about God? What has God given you? Who is it He has given such goodness to? He has given us way more than the whole world. He has given us His Son and all of the eternal riches the Son has purchased for us by His blood! Imagine a man whose wife slaps him and humiliates him in front of their children and friends. Imagine that husband consistently responds kindly. What an impact that would have on her and on others. This is the kind of love we see in God; yet to a more extreme degree. Jesus was a soft-hearted person in a hard-hearted world. He would have been just to have destroyed us all, but He overwhelmed us by His kindness, through His death at Calvary.
