The Song of Mary

December is a significant time in the calendar for its celebration of Christmas. Yet problems have been noted with its celebration. Christmas arose in connection with a pagan festival. Christmas is sometimes celebrated in a way that is entirely unbiblical. There is no Scriptural command to celebrate the Lord's incarnation on a given day. However, just because the false church and unbelievers abuse something does not mean we should avoid it. God does not forbid his people from holding special days to celebrate his work (Esther 9:17-19, Col 2:16). It is not inherently sinful for Christians to celebrate Christmas or for others to refrain from its celebration. We should also consider how we have an opportunity to make known the incarnation and the glories of the gospel. In this message, we look at the song of Mary to learn of Christmas and the gospel.

   These words are read and heard by more people than any other time of the year. As we believe entry of the word gives light, we should pray God to open their hearts

   We see John the Baptist acting as a prophet before his birth. These ladies knew a level of faith that we should admire and aim for.

   A true church seeks to exault God and not self. She magnifies his attribute and his works
   2b. source of her praise
   She speaks Bible in her praise to God because she knows the Bible. We need to be grounded in the Bible.
   2c. spirit of the song
   She knew her sinfulness. She trusted her Son. She found grace.
