Son of David, Son of God

Genalogies. Just the mention of one brings all kinds of boring and bored thoughts to mind. Our culture does not place too much value on the record of one's ancestors. However, throughout history, genealogies have occupied a place of great importance in many cultures and among many different ethnic groups.

Today we'll see some genealogical records from European nations that were current as of the 700s through 1,100s. Also of curious interest is how closely they matched the Bible's records (with a few differences) even though several of them had no access to Bibles.

Then, we'll look a bit more closely at Matthew and Luke's records of the genealogy of Jesus. We'll see similarities and differences that account for criticisms made by people who think more highly of human opinion than of God's record.

There are answers that fit the questions. The result of which is a strong affirmation of the Biblical record as being accurate and authoritative.

There are people groups around the world who, when given the option of "skipping" the genealogies, want to hear the genealogical record. "This tells us that these events actually happened."
