Seeking the One I Love

46

Now, we know from what the Scriptures say that “He never leaves us nor forsakes us.” (Hebrews 13: 5) And we also know that He says in Matthew 28: 20 “Lo, I am with you always, even until the end of the age”. We know that these verses are true. But, we must understand that even though our Beloved is very near, and even living in our heart by the power and presence of His Holy Spirit, that there are times in which we will not feel the nearness or the closeness of His presence. This should not cause us to doubt our salvation. It should cause us to live our Christian life by faith. “For we walk by faith and not by sight,” it says in 2 Corinthians 5: 7. And it should cause us to seek Him all the more. Therefore, this afternoon, we want to follow the Shulamite as she seeks for the One that she loves. We want to identify ourselves with her in her search. For her search is our search; to find Christ; and to have a greater devotion to Him. “More love to Thee, O Christ, more love to Thee.” There are 3 reasons in the mind of our Lord why He does not always give us a sense of His presence. The 1st reason is that He wants to know how deep your devotion to Him goes. (Verses 1 and 2) The second reason is that He wants to know whether you will seek counsel from the watchmen. (Verse 3) And the 3rd reason is that He wants to know what you will do when you find Him. (Verse 4)
