What are You Waiting For?

As we continue our series of Luke's Gospel we are given further insight into the early days of Jesus' life, his reliance upon the Father, and what his birth meant for those around him- he would bring joy to many, especially to those who have been waiting for the fulfilment of the Lord's promises of redemption, but suffering and opposition would come as well.

For us, Christmas Day has been, the presents have all been unwrapped and the New Year is about to begin, bringing with it all the joys and challenges of life after holidays and Christmas sales... yet, the wonder and joy of the birth of our Saviour, Jesus, the Son of God, must never fade into the distance. Instead, having seen and heard of the salvation of God in this one born in Bethlehem as Simeon did, there is all the more joy and thanksgiving to share in day after day, and all the more reason to declare his praises and proclaim the gospel to the nations. As there was in the days of Simeon and Anna, so too today there is a remnant– those waiting for their redemption. And for us who have received salvation in Christ, we go on waiting for 'our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ', with great assurance, knowing that he who promised is faithful.
