Romans Overview Chapter 9

77

In Romans nine we come into the presence of our sovereign God Who alone makes the promises that He chooses to make and to whom He chooses to give them. He then, by His great power and will, brings the promises to a completed state. We must note that God, as the potter, makes both the vessels of wrath and the vessels of mercy from the same lump of clay. This lump is all of us who are sinners by nature and choice and who are born condemned in Adam as we have already seen in Romans. God is not making people sinners but from the lump of sinners He is choosing to save some as His vessels of mercy. Without His choice on our behalf, certainly no would be saved or come to Him in true repentance and faith because there is none who does good, none who seek God, none who understands and there is no fear of God before our eyes. What a magnificent thing that He chose the elect according to His own good pleasure, and brought them under His magnificent love, mercy and grace!
