Jesus with Lazarus and His Sisters (4)

39 ( 10 | 29 )

We have been working through the passage for some time, in which we read of Jesus raising his friend, Lazarus, from the dead. This miracle has application for us in several ways. Here, of course, (1) we see the power of the Lord Jesus displayed before us, who can raise the physically dead from the grave, even after decomposition has begun its work. (2) But we also see prefigured our own future resurrection from the dead when we will hear the voice of the Son of God calling forth our bodies from death unto eternal life. (3) It also illustrates, however, of the spiritual resurrection that takes place when any and every soul becomes a Christian, a humble, repentant, trusting believer in Jesus Christ. The event of salvation is the Lord Jesus imparting spiritual life to the one who is spiritually dead. And then, of course, (4) this even points to our Lord's resurrection from the dead, when on the third day after His crucifixion, He rose triumphantly from the dead, securing and assuring our own participation in the resurrection life that He bestows on us by His grace. We touch on all of these applications today.
