CHRIST, THE EVERLASTING FATHER
TEXT: Isaiah 9:6
I. SPURGEON AND THE FATHERHOOD OF CHRIST. Christ is our Father...
--in the sense that He is the Founder of our faith.
--in the sense that He gives life to His children.
--in the sense that He is the Father of the future.
II. THE ONLY PERFECT FATHER.
--a Father to the fatherless.
--gave His life for us.
--clothes us with salvation, and feeds us with the bread of life.
--chastises us with a perfect love.
--teaches us, matures us, and brings us to spiritual maturity.
--will never die and leave us fatherless.
Hebrews 2:11-13: “For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, 12 saying: ‘I WILL DECLARE YOUR NAME TO MY BRETHREN; IN THE MIDST OF THE ASSEMBLY I WILL SING PRAISE TO YOU.’ 13 And again: ‘I WILL PUT MY TRUST IN HIM.’ And again: ‘HERE AM I AND THE CHILDREN WHOM GOD HAS GIVEN ME.’
Isaiah 9:6: For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Psalm 22:30-31: A posterity shall serve Him. It will be recounted of the Lord to the next generation, 31 They will come and declare His righteousness to a people who will be born, That He has done this.
