Control Freaks

In this text, we see a control freak named Diotrephes wreacking havoc in a church. When you hear the term control freak, certain names probably come to mind. But if we are honest and take a good hard look in the mirror, we will admit that we, too, have a desire for control. We like to control our circumstances in a way that keeps life "manageable." We may tend to control others by nagging them, picking at them, micromanaging them. We see this throughout society, and we see the consequences -- quarrels, fights, divorce, war. Christ set a very different example and called Christians to a very different example as well. He called us to be servants, not control freaks.
