1. God’s love in giving His Son for the world.
 He was his only begotten Son – hearkening back to John 1:18.
 He came for the purpose of bringing redemption to man
 Here we see God’s great love to the world – and not just to the Jewish
nation as so many of the rabbi’s believed.

  1. Here is the great gospel duty – to believe.
    
  2. Here is the great gospel benefit – eternal life.
    

I. The Purpose of His coming

  1. Not for Condemnation  v. 17
    
  2. Not for Judgment  v. 19		
      John 5:21-29;   John 1:12-13
    
  3. Positively -- For the Purpose of Salvation – v.  16-17

“He gave his only Son, in order that everyone who believes in him
should not perish but should have eternal life.”

II. Scripture is Simple yet Bottomless -- LBCF – 1:7

All things in Scripture are not alike plain in themselves, nor alike clear unto all; yet those things
which are necessary to be known, believed and observed for salvation, are so clearly propounded
and opened in some place of Scripture or other, that not only the learned, but the unlearned, in a
due use of ordinary means, may attain to a sufficient understanding of them.

III. The Meaning of the Word “WORLD”

  1. It can mean a large number of people – John 12:19

    1. It can mean everyone except Christians (common)

John 14:17; 15:19; 17:9

  1. It can mean all types of people inclusively -- Rev. 5:9-10

IV. Jesus as the Savior of the World.
John 4:42 – “…the Christ the Savior of the world.”
Jn 1:29 – “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
