The Uniqueness of Jesus Christ

In the Old Testament the Word of God is personified as revealing God and doing His work. Jesus Christ as the fullest revelation of God is aptly referred to by John as the Word, words being the means to reveal the character, nature and thoughts of someone.

In this prologue several other attributes are stated about Jesus Christ underscoring the fact of His deity. Jesus has existed eternally. Particularly noted is His existence at the time of creation, Him being Creator of everything, and Him being face to face with God.

Jesus being referred to as the Light emphasizes the truth that He revealed the holiness of God in stark contrast to the darkness of man's sinfulness.

Jesus being the Word became flesh taking on the form and nature of man while continuing to exist as God. There was and has never been a change in His deity. His existence is totally and eternally unique, having been begotten of God as the one and only of His kind.

He alone is the source of grace and truth, from God, to man. All who receive Him by believing His Words as truth and trusting in His work to be rescued from sin are born again as the children of God.
