Mary's Song of Praise

Mary's Magnificat (Song of Praise) is her response to Elizabeth's greeting. It is a psalm patterned after the response of Hannah in 1 Samuel 2 after the Lord answered her prayer for a son. In that song, Hannah expected a king who would be the Lord's anointed. Mary recognizes that the child in her womb is that anointed King. Her soul magnifies the Lord who blessed her with this privilege. Mary was not sinless but yielded to the will of God.
