In Philippians 3:12-14, Paul uses a layered word picture to describe his change from his life before Christ to his calling as an apostle. Jesus "laid hold" on Paul, arresting him, then placed him in a race that could be compared to the Olympic games. Paul exhorts his readers to imitate him, forgetting what is past, and pressing on toward the goal of the race.
