A. Two unions and two corresponding fundamental principles (1-3; Romans 5:12-21)

1. union with Adam = legal obligation to the law, condemnation, slavery, bondage, and death (separation from God)

2. union with Christ = freedom from our legal obligation, justification, life in communion with God, service

B. The fundamental death of our legal obligation (former husband) through Christ's fulfillment of the legal demands of the law as a covenant of works (1-3)
