Practical lessons from the examples of Philip and Ananias

Acts 8:4-8; Acts 8:26-9:19

Introduction

1. Case study of two converts: Ethiopian Eunuch v Pharisee Saul

• Two ways of living without God
• Man's spiritual blindness
• How God's light begins to shine
• Kingdom outcome

2. Case study #1: Philip

• Philip’s faith turned a threat into an opportunity (Acts 8:1-5)
• Philip’s openness to and interest in a fellow sinner (Acts 8:26-30)
• Philip’s targeting of Biblical content at the Eunuch’s questions (Acts 8:31-35)
• Philip’s message included a decisive call to faith, repentance and obedience (Acts 8:35-36)

3. Case Study #2: Ananias

• Ananias was prayerful and ready to be used (Acts 9:10)
• Ananias wrestled with rational fears just like us (Acts 9:13-14)
• Ananias’ faith overcame his fears so he could willingly obey (Acts 9:15-17a)
• Ananias provides an outstanding example of warmth and generosity of spirit (Acts 9:17)

• Our purpose as a local church is to actively work to glorify God’s name and expand His kingdom in Brisbane’s north and beyond, with the Bible as our guide and final authority.
