- God leaves them for a season, not forever. If he goes from them, it is but as one that goes from home, to return again, "I will not leave you comfortless," or as orphans, "but I will come again" (John 14:18). When Zion was in this uncomfortable case, God said unto her, "'For a small moment have I forsaken thee, but with great mercies will I gather thee; in a little wrath have I hid my face from thee for a moment, but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee,' saith the Lord my redeemer" (Isaiah 54:7-8).
