The Spirit of Adoption

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of adoption.

God has only one, only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Our Lord was begotten of his Father from all eternity, and there never was a time that he was not.

But God adopts believers into his family -- we who were by nature children of the devil are now adopted as God's precious daughters and sons -- and God sends us the Holy Spirit who leads us to utter the same words of Jesus, "Abba, Father." Even when we are in our deepest and darkest times of trial, the Holy Spirit calls forth that endearing word, Abba, and we, like Jesus, rest in the Father's love, affection and delight.
