Having a Clear Conscience in the Christian Life

How important its is in life to go about our dealings with the benefit of a clear conscience regarding our motives and behaviour. What then are the sad effects of a bad conscience, and what are the aspects of life that may aid the good conscience? May we have such a conscience, and so commend Christ to others by the way we live.
