The Ten Commandments (part 1) -- Why God Gave Us the Law

The purpose of the Law was not to create a list of rules wherebey Israel might save themselves. Contrary to popular belief, the Israelites were not saved by keeping the Law, whereby we in the church are saved by grace. No, everyone who has ever been saved has been saved by the grace of God through faith alone. The commandments were given to show us our sin, our duty and our need for a Savior. And that is just what they do.
