Jesus, Our Immanuel!!!

243 ( 104 | 139 )

Herein we again trace out God's sovereign working throughout redemptive history to bring about the fulfillment of the promise made in the garden in Genesis 3:15.

In Matthew 1-2, we see many OT motifs being used to signal to the reader that God is culminating His promises to save His people through His Seed, namely the God-man, Jesus Christ.

God is sovereign over all, as we see in:

  1. The miraculous conception (the virgin birth)
  2. The miraculous intervention (Joseph's dream)

Also we see His mercy in grace in:

  1. The name Jesus - the Messiah who will forgive His people from their sins.
  2. The name Immanuel - by condemning sin in the flesh, the Messiah restores intimate communion between Creator and creation.

And this all according to Yahweh's overarching plan to bring about universal glory to His Son, Jesus Christ the God-man.

This tired preacher reminds us that God's light shines best in a broken vessel. His grace abounds in our weakness!

of mankind, from Genesis to Revelation, from Abraham
to Joseph and even from Ruth to Mary.
