The Grace of Giving, Pt. 1

17

To NIV's credit, it actually brings out the essence of text in their translation in 8:7, "this grace of giving." Literally it translates as "in this grace" as the KJV has it. ESV has "in this act of grace."
Several Principles About Giving
First of all, we must give voluntarily (8:3; 9:7a).
Secondly, we must give according to our means (8:3, 12).
Thirdly, we must give cheerfully (9:7b).
Fourthly, we must give generously (9:6).
Questions not answered
• How much? A Tithe?
• Giving to the church, missions, etc.
Conclusion
Unless you know the grace of God that has saved you, all this will mean little. Before you give, give yourself to God. Believe in the Lord Jesus — that bountiful gift will set your heart free.

If you are a believer, your Christian commitment is seen in your use of your wealth. Do you honor Him with it and do you know anything of the grace of giving? Remember, we are sojourners; we are not about this world.

ERGO: Money does strange things to people, even to Christians. One of the best ways to help you to be free from the love of it is to learn the grace of giving.
