Upholding mercy

In preparation for an opportunity for corporate thanksgiving, this is a brief study in Psalm 94:18, concerning what fear says and what faith knows. Fear might say, "I am falling!" when assaulted by temptation, accusation, persecution, affliction, confusion, oppression, dejection and destruction. Faith knows, "Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up." It knows that the covenant love of a faithful God will keep his people from going over the edge. Such a spirit looks back with gratitude, and looks forward with confidence, calling on God when falling, and praising him when held up.
