Miracles in the Incarnation

Let us think on the incarnation and the sign given to Ahaz and to the house of David and given to us as well.

There are three miracles and three applications because we have a God who is able to cause his Son to enter into the world.

Three miracles:

1. The miracle of prophesy being fulfilled - Occurred 700 years before it would find its fulfillment in the coming of Christ. 300 prophesies fulfilled in the coming of Christ. Ahaz did not believe the sign. You can't afford to be wrong and reject what the word of God says regarding salvation because it will come to pass.

2. The miracle of a virgin conceiving - The work means virgin, not young maiden. It is not a miracle that a young maiden would conceive and give birth. Anselm said there are four ways to make a human being: the normal way with a man and a woman, no man or woman which is how Adam was made, a man without a woman which is how Eve was made, a woman alone which is how Christ was made. Christ was born of a virgin just as is stated here.

3. The miracle of Christ being called Immanuel who is God with us - God performed the miracle of preparing a human body and a reasonable soul to join to the eternally existing Son of God. Christ is fully God and fully man joined forever in one person forever.

Three applications:

1. Do you believe God's Word is going to come true?
2. Do you believe in God's power to create in your heart a new man?
3. Do you believe Christ is God with you?
