TEXT: Hebrews 12:1-4
SUMMARY: In this passage, the Christian life is compared to a race to the finish, as cheered by those who have gone before us, and awaited by our Savior, who is our example, our defender and our reward.
I. WE ARE REMINDED OF THE WITNESSES.
II. WE ARE LIKENED TO THE PARTICIPANTS.
A. The Circumstances: "Surrounded by Witnesses."
B. The Charge: "Run the race."
- A strenuous run.
- A regulated run.
― apotithemi, "lay aside…"
― euperistatos, "the well-surrounding sin" - An enduring run.
C. The Capability: "Looking to Jesus."
- The Author (Leader, Captain) of our faith.
- The Finisher (Perfecter) of our faith.
