Many Christians do not utilize their available time for proper Bible study to maximize their devotion to God's Word & to an obtaining of a greater understanding of the very nature of God & His ways. The Devil's greatest weapon in his war against God's people is ignorance of the revelation of God as revealed through His prophets & apostles as found in the Holy Scriptures. God puts great importance on His revealed Word as found in Psalm 138:2, "for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name" (KJV). Jesus Himself mentioned this importance again & again but one of the most striking references is found in Luke 16:27-31 where he stated, "And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, that you send him to my father’s house— 28 for I have five brothers—in order that he may warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ 29 But Abraham *said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ 30 But he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!’ 31 But he said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead." Thus the Word of God is paramount to knowing God & His will which in turn, through the power of the Holy Spirit, leads to eternal life & salvation from the coming wrath of God through the gospel.
