God's Remedy For Sin

How does the Bible describe man's state before God? If it were a physical ailment, would the prognosis be anything but terminal? What of the spiritual diagnosis? Is there any part of man that is not depraved? How does God's remedy for sin contrast with what man thinks or supposes? Why is it that sinners left to their own choice will never come to Christ?
