I – THE PROMISE FOR ASSURANCE
Beloved: Notice the first contrast (agapetos)
Persuaded: “total confidence” (peithos) a noun derived from “pistos”
The promise: salvation (soteria); deliverance from the guilt power and presence of sin Salvation, though it is firm
II – THE GROUNDS FOR ASSURANCE
- The Faithfulness of God
a) A historical reference
b) Labors of love that show
c) Ministering to the saints
2.The Immutability of God's Purposes
Verses 13-16
a) Covenant Theology:
b) The immutability of God's purposes in salvation
c) It is reassured by the promise of an immutable God
3.The promise of salvation
Does it get any surer than that? God swore by Himself that those who are of the faith of Abraham in Christ will be saved!
III – THE PURPOSE OF ASSURANCE
a) Encouragement
b) Diligence…
c) God's promise to Abraham in Genesis
Conclusion: Where does the assurance rest? In a person's faith? Or in the guarantor of God's Promise?
