Unto Us a Child is Born: Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace

234 ( 94 | 140 )

The names of Jesus in Scripture declare not only His identity, but His qualifications to serve us as Savior and rule us as King.
Isaiah's prophecy of Jesus' birth says: "His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6 NKJV)
Our Savior and King, Jesus, is like a father to His people. His love flows from His very nature, never the merit of His own, and His loyalty is unending.
The Lord's rule is not cold and unfeeling, but warm, welcoming and without condition for those who are the objects of His great affection.
Like a father, Jesus knows us fully, yet forgives us completely, and cherishes us endlessly. Is this your view of King Jesus?
Of course, this father-child relationship with God is not ours by birthright; we must be adopted into His family at great cost to Himself.
Only because our Prince of Peace, Jesus, took the wrath of God for our sin can we be at peace with God and rest peacefully in our Lord's fatherly love.
This Sunday, we'll turn once more to Isaiah's prophecy of Christ's advent as we consider, "Unto Us a Child is Born: Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
