Jesus meets His disciples where they are. Even though in this passage Jesus looks different, the disciples still knew it was Jesus. When the disciples were completely unsuccessful, that is when Jesus showed up. Jesus supplied the fish then asked His disciples to contribute some. Jesus came repeatedly with His disciples before He ascended to the Father. God made Peter a leader but he was badly broken over his denial of Jesus. Sometimes in order to help us, the Lord has to hurt us. Pain is not the purpose, it is the process. Jesus loved Peter enough that Jesus asked him three times if loved Him. Peter was told by Jesus to become a shepherd instead of just a fisherman. If you are a Christian then whatever you do, eat or drink, or say, is all for the glory of God. When Peter asked about the disciple that Jesus loved, Jesus asked him what does it matter to you, you Peter are to follow Me (paraphrased). If we want to be a shepherd to others, we must follow Jesus ourselves. Shepherds lead their sheep. The gospel of John was written so that we would know and believe that Jesus is the Christ. Much, much more could have been written about Jesus, however these things were written so that we might believe. If we love Jesus, there will be other people who need to meet Jesus. If we are really serious about following Him, we must die to self and sin. Do you love Him, are you following Him, are you ready to be used by Him?
