Gay Marriage: Liberty or Ligitimacy?

357

Special Guest: Greg Koukl

America is entangled in the most heated battle of the culture wars to date. State supreme courts and city governments, senators and congressmen, community leaders and celebrities, and even clergy have mounted a powerful offensive in support of gay "marriage."

But what are Gay couples really trying to achieve? Many have concluded that it is an issue of liberty (a battle to win civic freedoms that gay couples are being denied). The fact is that gay couples already have the same level of legal liberties that married couples enjoy (share home ownership, property, etc.).
What then is the real issue behind the battle for Gay Marriage? It is Legitimacy. The marriage license doesn't give liberty it give legitimacy (respect). It is all about validation and social respect. It is an effort to make homosexuality socially acceptable.

On today's program we will speak with Greg Koukl, Founder and President of "Stand To Reason". (an organization devoted to a thoughtful and engaging defense of classical Christian values in the public square). Greg is the author of “Relativism: Feet Firmly Planted in Mid-Air” with Francis J. Beckwith, and “Precious Unborn Human Persons”. Greg has published more than 145 articles and has spoken on more than 40 university and college campuses both in the U.S. and abroad. (see www.str.org)
