The Sayings of Christ on the Cross 01

For several weeks we have been looking at Christ on the cross and what He did. First, it was a sacrifice for our sin. He took our place and paid our debt, setting us free. These are easy words to say, but words that will probably never be completely understood. Second, it was a demonstration of His control, His sovereignty. It happened when God allowed it to happen. This also showed us the wickedness of sin. If God draws back, if He stops convicting and allows sin to go unchecked, it runs rampant and full of hate. It kills, knowing and ignoring all truth and righteousness. That is sin. A true understanding should make us flee sin, fear sin, and cling to God. Then we saw Christ defeating Satan. The cross had an effect. It was more than a crucifixion. It was a battle between God and Satan. Satan struck at God, trying to destroy Him, to silence Him. Yet in this attack, He was crushed by God and we were once and for all delivered from his kingdom and translated into the kingdom of God. Satan lost his power over us and a door was opened to anyone who would come. The way to God was once again opened. Lastly, we looked at ourselves. When a man comes to the cross of Christ and casts himself at the Savior’s feet and asks for forgiveness, He is set free. He is freed from the Law, free from the consequences of His sin, freed to serve God and to follow Him. In his new freedom, He has a new life, and new position or status, and a new home with access and privileges to come before God’s holy throne. With all that happening on the cross, it is easy to see that nothing that happened on the cross happened by chance. Today we are going to look at the seven sayings of Christ as a whole.
