The Incarnation: Christ, The Light of the World

No one knows for sure exactly when Christ was born in Bethlehem. The late Dr. Henry Morris has pointed out that the likely time of year for shepherds to have been in the fields outside Bethlehem watching their sheep was in the early autumn. For this reason, many Christians in England and western Europe observed an ancient Christian feast on September 29. If their timetable was correct, the miraculous conception of Christ in Mary's womb would have occurred nine months earlier – around December 25! There is something intriguing about the likelihood that Jesus, “the Light of the world,” entered our world right at the season of the darkest and longest night of the year!

John in his gospel is preoccupied with the Person of Christ, the incarnate Son of God. He never once mentions Christ's birth in Bethlehem!
