Charity is the touchstone of Christianity. If true charity, as the Bible describes it here, is not present, then neither is true faith. It is the tendency of most people to try and substitute service and sacrifice for charity, but that is idolatry and it is the way of Cain. God is love, and if his Holy Spirit lives in us the fruit of the Spirit is first "love."
