Encouragement and not discouragement

Why is encouragement so important in the Bible? The Bible says to exhort or strongly encourage others to do certain things to strengthen our walk of faith. We never know what sort of peer pressure someone is already under. We should never look to take advantage of someone when they fall but instead find ways to lift them up. This world already offers enough ways to bring discouragement into someone's life let's look to see how we can be a blessing instead.
